Pam McKinney
CALN Board of Directors Member
Pam is a member of the Charleston County School Board (CCSB) and previously served as its board chair. She formerly taught AP Calculus and other high school math courses in the Charleston County School District for a decade. After leaving the classroom full-time, Pam retained her passion for education and became a substitute teacher. Today, she teaches Sunday School for children and adults and Bible Study classes for women in South Carolina.
.
Since her election to the Charleston County School Board in November 2022, her district has had success. It approved a reading curriculum that is state-approved and non-controversial; cursive handwriting is being taught again, and the curriculum of courses is receiving detailed review before approval. Some of what she is most proud of includes hiring their district superintendent, Anita Huggins; reducing the millage rate while giving teachers a $13,000 pay raise and a one-time $5,000 bonus with ESSER funds; and approving a first-in-the-state district budget with weighted student funding (WSF).
.
Pam graduated from the Charleston County School District, the College of Charleston, and the Citadel, where she earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).
.
In her non-school life, she has served on philanthropic boards, held church leadership positions, and has been a school volunteer. Pam and her husband Pat just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and she is a mother and grandmother. They are active members of St. Michael’s Anglican Church.
