Following our June kickoff event, the CALN initiative and our emphasis on student achievement started catching the eye of local media, including the South Carolina online news publication FITSNews.
In a July 3 article, Will Folks, founding editor of the news outlet, describes CALN as a project to “empower school board members across both states with the tools needed to facilitate better academic outcomes in their district’s classrooms – and push back against pernicious ‘outside agendas.’” Well said, sir!
The article recognizes the state leaders from North and South Carolina who graciously attended our event, including U.S. Representative Ralph Norman, U.S. Representative and Chairwoman of the Committee on Education and Work Force Virginia Foxx, S.C. State Senator Wes Climer, and former S.C. Superintendent of Education Dr. Mick Zais. We also thank the dozens of passionate North and South Carolina school board members who joined us and made the event possible.
Wendy Damron, president of Palmetto Promise Institute, recognizes challenges with the current school board landscape, telling FITSNews, “It has become abundantly clear that there is a need for an organization to provide support for school board members who want to work with parents to focus on academic excellence and student achievement.”
FITSNews says it plans to keep its readers up to speed on our efforts, and we look forward to showing what CALN has to offer!
