What do North and South Carolina have in common? They both have a recent history of starting a new year without a budget.

CALN Director Bryce Fiedler will open the discussion with a look at SC’s pending budget—covering what’s new for education, where the House and Senate disagree, and what happens if the state doesn’t pass one (a prospect recently floated by some lawmakers).

Kaitlyn Shepherd of the John Locke Foundation will then delve into NC’s spending bill, covering not only education spending but several notable changes to K-12 programs and policies (teaser: the budget calls for new standards on artificial intelligence literacy, among other things)

Get ready for the new school year by knowing what’s new for 2026-27 in CALN’s July webinar and bring your questions—we’re here to help!
