Join us in Columbia, SC, for CALN’s inaugural School Board Bootcamp—a free, comprehensive day of professional development covering the core responsibilities of school board service.

Attendees will learn from renowned experts about school board fundamentals, effective budgeting strategies, curriculum selection, parliamentary procedure, and how trustees can foster academic excellence in their districts.

First-time board members are strongly encouraged to attend this event. In addition, we welcome board members of all experience levels to join us and receive continuing education in these crucial areas. For those who cannot attend in person, the bootcamp will be available to watch via Zoom.

Board members who complete all five training sessions will earn CALN’s School Board Bootcamp Certificate of Completion!

A light breakfast and free Chick-fil-a lunch will be provided to all who attend.

Bootcamp Agenda

8 am: Doors open, light breakfast served

8:30 am – 10 am: “School Board Fundamentals: Attitudes and Strategies for Success” – Dr. Kelly Kohls, National School Board Leadership Council

10:05 am – 11:15 am: “Lessons on Curriculum Selection” – Jordan Adams, education consultant and curriculum specialist

11:20 am – 12:00 pm: Lunch and networking

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm: “Smart Budgeting: What You Need to Know” – Aaron Beaulieu, School Operations Specialists

1:40 pm – 2:40 pm: “A Crash Course in Parliamentary Procedure” – Chris Sullivan, Skyagunsta, Inc.

2: 50 pm – 3: 50 pm “The State of Student Achievement” – Dr. Oran Smith, Palmetto Promise Institute

4 pm: Bootcamp ends
