Attention North Carolinians! Early Voting has officially begun!

Out of 115 school districts in North Carolina, 87 have an election this November, with a total of 292 seats up for grabs. In anticipation of Election Day, here are some key facts you need to know before you hit the polls:

  1. Each district runs their school board elections differently. Some elections are “at-large,” meaning a seat is district-wide, while others hold elections among sub-districts, or areas in which only those who live can vote.
  1. 52 districts will hold partisan elections this year, for which candidates on the ballot disclose their party affiliation. The other 35 districts will hold non-partisan elections, for which candidates run against each other with no indication of a party affiliation.
  1. You can click the still image below to use EdNC’s interactive map of school districts, which provides information on every NC school district holding an election this November.
  1. At a glance, you can check whether your school district is holding an election this year, whether it is partisan, and how many seats are up for election by visiting this spreadsheet
